The scientific name of star anise is ‘Illicium Verum'. It is called as a medium-sized tree which is native to northeast Vietnam. It is estimated that about 90% of the star anise is used in the extraction of shikimic acid. The content of anethole on star anise is responsible for the flavor in it. In India, it is suitable for making Masala Chai and Biryani. Some of the people also try it for French recipes. China and India are the largest producers of star anise in the world.
